1976: Volkswagen produces the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the world's first compact sports car. The concept is widely copied on a national and international scale - but the original remains unmatched.
2004: Like its famous predecessor, the VW Golf GTI also embodies pure power, pure dynamism and sportiness through and through.
The centre of power
The VW New Golf GTI offers the newly developed 2.0 l FSI turbo engine. Delivering 147 kW (200 bhp) of power (CO2 emissions: 190-194 g/km**), this turbocharged direct-injection unit develops 280 Nm of torque, propelling the car to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds and pushing it to a top speed of 235 km/h.
The Volkswagen New Golf GTI is a true performance car, powering from 0-62 mph in just 6.9 seconds and reaching 149mph. But its talents don't end there. Advanced new systems maximise traction and improve responses. While its dynamic good looks and superb cabin are designed to thrill with every drive.
